Probiotics are live microorganisms that are found in yogurt, fermented foods, and a variety of dietary supplements. These healthy bacteria have many jobs, like helping to digest food, destroying cells that can cause disease, and helping to absorb vitamins.

Probiotics have all kinds of potential benefits. They may help your body to maintain its community of healthy microorganisms that support your body’s immune system, gut health, and produce substances that aid your body in meeting its needs.

There’s a lot to love about probiotics. And there’s also a lot to love about chocolate. That’s why we’re excited about these two recipes for making delicious and gut-friendly probiotic chocolates.

Raw Probiotic Chocolate Bar

This recipe is super simple, basic, and delicious.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together melted coconut oil, cacao powder, maple syrup, almond butter, and salt.
  2. If coconut oil has recently been melted and is warm, let the mixture cool while occasionally whisking.
  3. Add the probiotics.
  4. Pour into a chocolate mold, and tap gently to remove air bubbles.
  5. Put in freezer for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Serve and enjoy!

Probiotic Chocolate Ice Cream

For a cooler treat, check out this recipe. Note that you’ll need an ice cream maker for this one.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups full fat coconut milk pr raw, grass-fed cream.
  • 1-½ cups kefir (plain).
  • 2 cups raw whole milk.
  • ½ cup cocoa powder.
  • 1 ripe avocado (or ½ a large ripe avocado).
  • 3 egg yolks.
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract.
  • 3 cups powdered natural cane sugar (or substitute with 3 cups and 6 tablespoon coconut sugar, or 2-¼ cup granulated or brown sugar, or ¾-cup date pieces).

Directions

  1. Put all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend on high speed until smooth.
  3. Put into refrigerator until completely chilled.
  4. Freeze according to the instructions on your ice cream maker.
  5. Serve immediately (or put in freezer to harden for 1 hour if necessary).
  6. Enjoy!
