We all go through a season in our lives (okay, maybe many, many seasons) where we’re in a rush to wrap up the workday, just so we can unwind with a glass of wine or an ice-cold beer. Maybe two. If we can be real for a second, it’s for obvious reasons — work leave us stressed sometimes, and when your co-workers recommend some drinks, well, it doesn’t seem like the worst idea in the world.
At some point, though, the late night beverages catch up with you. You might even feel lethargic the next morning which puts a dent in your day and slows you down. Maybe none of those things happen — maybe you just decide one day: “Maybe there’s a healthier way to switch-up this happy hour routine.”
Of course, you know that the gym is a good place to make merry for an hour or two without the sluggish feeling afterward . But going to happy hour is the easier and more fun choice, right? Well, maybe once in a while. But add it up? It’s not better for your health. Not better for your bank account. And frankly, not even better for interacting with people (hint: sign up for a YouGX group fitness class where available!). Here are some great reasons to choose the gym instead of happy hour, or perhaps reinvent your happy hour altogether.
Youfit won’t cancel because something better came up. Yikes, does that one sting? Face it, we’ve all cleared our calendar days in advance for a happy hour or get together. And then, all of a sudden, Francine decides going on a Bumble date is more important, and you’re left high and dry. Forget Francine. Come try a yoga class.
The gym is a great place to meet new people. Are you in a new city? Or perhaps you’re just trying to be more “social” and don’t know where to start? Swing by the gym and you just might meet your new best friend running next to you on the treadmill. You can even make a friend (or a dance partner) while taking an upbeat YouGX class like Zumba. The gym is a great way to get to know people in your area with similar interests while getting your sweat on. Plus, gym clothes are way more comfortable than spending an extra two hours wearing business casual.
You’ll feel better leaving the gym than you will leaving the bar. Call us crazy, but we don’t know too many people who leave the bar and feel better than when they walked in — at least not in a way that lasts once the buzz wears off. But a good workout is a nod to your health, plus it gets your endorphins going for some feel-good pick-me-ups at the end of the day. Now that’s how you end the night on a high note.
