The effect of allergies on our sinuses and respiratory system is generally well known. Sinus pain, pressure, sneezing, and sniffling are common seasonal allergy symptoms.

But allergies can affect more than just our sinus and respiratory systems. In fact, one painful way allergy symptoms can manifest is by causing joint and muscle pain.

Can Allergies Cause Joint and Muscle Pain?

Can allergies cause joint and muscle pain? In short: yes. Both seasonal and food-related allergies can cause joint and muscle pain.

The start of allergy season brings about a spike in common allergy symptoms (like sneezing, watery eyes, and stuffy nose) in those who are affected by seasonal allergies. But for some people, it can present as new or worsening neck, back, and joint pain.

For some, this joint and muscle pain may be caused at least in part by related factors, including seasonal allergy symptoms that increase during allergy season. For some people, the rapid change in weather – both temperature and humidity – can also be at least partially to blame for the resultant joint and muscle pain.

Why Can Allergies Cause Joint and Muscle Pain?

Food or seasonal allergies can contribute to joint or muscle pain because when our bodies detect allergens (caused by seasonal allergens like pollen or ragweed, or by allergies to certain food or medications), it stimulates our immune system.

The immune system misidentifies the allergen as something dangerous, and so it releases a wide variety of immune system responses (including histamine) to fight off the allergen. Doing so causes inflammation in your entire body. For some people, this results in joint and muscle pain.

Allergic reactions can cause joint pain in the shoulders and knees, muscle pain in the back (especially the lower back), and in other parts of the body, including the arms, legs, chest, abdomen, and neck.

One way to support a healthy response to allergens during allergy season and beyond is with nutritional supplements from trusted companies like Vital Nutrients, DMSO, and Terry Naturally.

Aller-C – Vital Nutrients

Aller-C from Vital Nutrients is a natural allergy relief dietary supplement that contains isoquercitrin, bioflavonoids, and vitamin C to help moderate the inflammatory immune response to allergens. Vitamin C, a potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger, provides a wide range of health support for our bodies. Isoquercitrin helps to regulate histamine production, and the bioflavonoid complex supports the strength of capillaries. Together, this formulation supports stable cells, as well as supporting the ability to maintain normal respiratory and sinus function.

DMSO 99.9% Pure Liquid – DMSO

DMSO 99.9% Pure Liquid from DMSO is a natural option for supporting joint health and temporary relief from occasional symptoms associated with seasonal challenges. This formula contains only dimethyl sulfoxide, a simple small molecule that has been used for a variety of applications – including providing temporary relief from occasional joint pain and skin conditions. It can be applied topically or in combination with other substances.

Curamin Extra Strength – Terry Naturally

Curamin Extra Strength from Terry Naturally is an herbal-based dietary supplement clinically proven to offer temporary muscle and joint pain relief. It contains ingredients like:

  • A highly bioavailable form of antioxidant-rich curcumin, BCM-95 curcumin for pain
  • Turmeric essential oils
  • A standardized curcuminoids complex
  • BosPure, a researched form of Boswellia, is known for its potential to help the body maintain a balanced natural internal response
  • DLPA supports the effects on endorphins
  • Nattokinase is an enzyme that may promote reactions in the body
